Master Speed Wing Flying with Confidence
Available spots
Service Description
Duration: 1 Day Location: Wanaka, New Zealand Level: Experienced Pilots (Assessment Only) Investment: $595 NZD The SWP Assessment is a formal evaluation for experienced pilots seeking the NZHGPA Speed Wing Pilot Rating. This is not a training course. It is a competency assessment designed to confirm whether a pilot already meets the required standard for safe and independent speed wing operation in New Zealand. Minimal coaching may be provided for clarification, but the focus is on demonstrating existing skills, judgement, and safe decision-making in real flying conditions. Who This Is For This assessment is for pilots who: * Have strong paragliding experience (PG2+) * Can confidently control wings independently * Have prior exposure to speed wings, miniwings, or similar systems * Are ready to demonstrate competency without structured coaching If you are still building wing control, confidence, or strong-wind skills, the Parakite Foundations programme is the recommended development pathway. Assessment Areas * Wing control and ground handling * Launch and landing proficiency * Speed wing handling and energy management * Weather and terrain judgement * Risk management and decision-making * Equipment preparation and safety awareness Outcome Successful pilots will be awarded the NZHGPA Speed Wing Pilot (SWP) Rating. All pilots receive feedback and progression guidance. If the required standard is not met, further training will be recommended before reassessment. Important The SWP Assessment is not a training course. It is a validation of existing competency. For structured development, we recommend: Ground Handling Mastery → Parakite Intro Clinic → Parakite Foundations → SWP Rating Further Progression Opportunities: Advanced Parakite Progression Speed Flying Speed Riding Most pilots reach SWP standard through Parakite Foundations before attending assessment. Why This Exists Speed wing flying requires a higher level of precision, judgement, and environmental awareness than standard paragliding. This assessment ensures pilots meet a consistent competency standard aligned with NZHGPA requirements for safe speed wing operations in New Zealand. All participants must complete the Para Clinics Registration Form prior to attendance.
